Coffee Happy Birthday

The hardest cards for me to make are without a doubt masculine cards and sympathy cards. I needed a masculine birthday card, and thought I would create a card based on the current Tic Tac Toe Challenge.   While I had originally planned to use the vertical Birthday-Masculine-Use Packaging Goods row, I could not think of a masculine way to incorporate packaging goods into a project.   I then decided to try to find a color palette to use via Pinterest and was immediately overwhelmed by all of the options.  I kept returning to Pinterest very few days to search for a bit, and yesterday finally stumbled across a color palette that spoke to me:

Once I had the color inspiration picked out, the card idea came about pretty quickly.  The recipient of this card is a big coffee-drinker, so I thought I would create a coffee-themed birthday card for him:

I began by selecting colored cardstocks that matched the beachy color inspiration, then used the stitched rectangle die from WPlus9’s Gift Card Layers dies to create a focal panel from the sand cardstock.  I cut a 1.5″ x 5.5″ strip of grey cardstock then ran it through the Cuttlebug Seeing Spots embossing folder in my Big Shot.  I die cut the coffee cup image from the remaining aqua, teal, and cream cardstocks.

I adhered the embossed dots strip to the left side of the focal panel with Tombow Mono Multi glue, then placed the coffee cups over the embossed strip.  I inlaid the hearts of the coffee cups and also adhered them with Tombow MMG.

I stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp’s Hello You onto the bottom right corner of the focal panel in Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I adhered the focal panel to an A2 side-fold khaki cardstock base and after successfully resisting the urge to coat the hearts in Wink of Stella or add sequins to the card front my card was complete!

I am submitting this card to the current Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge:
