2016 Holiday Card Series #4: Good Tidings of Great Joy

When I first started making cards, I invested in the 48-count tin of Prismacolor Premier colored pencils and used them on almost every project.  Since then, I’ve slowly built up a collection of COPIC Sketch Markers and tend to reach for those first when it comes time to color an image.  I dusted off my colored pencils for the 30-Day Coloring Challenge and am so glad I did — I had forgotten how fun they were to color with!!  I decided to create a card using a non-traditional holiday color scheme:

I used the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die to cut out a focal panel from Neenah Solar White cardstock.  Using my Fiskars Stamp Press, I stamped the circled numbers border from Simon Says Stamp’s Holiday Borders onto the panel with Versamark ink and heat set it with clear embossing powder.  I then blended on Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass, and Spun Sugar Distress Inks to achieve the embossed resist background.

I stamped the adorable penguin from Purple Onion Designs onto Neenah Solar White cardstock using SSS Black ink then colored him in with Prismacolor Premier colored pencils and blended with gamsol.  I then fussy cut the image leaving a small white border.

I didn’t have any matching lavender cardstock, so I created my own by blending Shaded Lilac Distress Ink onto a scrap of white cardstock.  I then used the smallest SSS Stitched Rectangles die to cut out a small rectangle to house my sentiment and ground the penguin.   I stamped the sentiment from SSS’ Peace on Earth in Versamark ink and heat set it with silver embossing powder.

I mounted the penguin and sentiment onto the focal panel with foam tape, then added a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear sequins.  I adhered the card front to an A2 top-fold white card base with Tombow Mono Multi Glue and my card was complete.

I am submitting this card to the current SSS Wednesday Challenge (Christmas Critters) and SSS Flickr Challenge (Take Some Time to Color).

Thanks for stopping by!!

I originally had this card idea for my 2016 Holiday Card Series (using last year’s Simon Says Stamp/Lawn Fawn collaboration stamp set Merry Christmouse), but decided to switch it up and instead make a thank you card for my cousins who are hosting us for Thanksgiving this year.  I am playing along with the current Lawnscaping Challenge: Continue reading

2016 Holiday Card Series #2: Merry & Bright

My order containing a set of Claritystamp stencil brushes arrived this past week from Simon Says Stamp and I couldn’t wait to try them out!  I watched a bunch of YouTube instructional videos on them, then decided to christen them along with the Tim Holtz Holiday Knit stencil I got last year but never (successfully) used on a card.  I decided to play along with the current MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge: Continue reading
