Welcome Jaxsten

Happy New Year!  New year, lots of new babies on the way for my friends and family!!  One of my coworkers will return shortly from her maternity leave…She actually began her leave earlier than expected so we weren’t able to throw her a baby shower before her new son was born.  We will instead welcome her back to work with a party and shower her with gifts then.  Here is the card I made on behalf of our workplace:

I created the focal panel from Canson Watercolor paper using the largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles die.  I blended Mermaid Lagoon and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks onto the panel then added water droplets and picked them up with a paper towel.

While I let the panel air dry, I stamped the images from WPlus9’s Party Animal onto Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink and colored them with ZIG Clean Color Real Brush markers.  I used the coordinating dies to cut out the colored images. (I’ve actually had this stamp set for a while, but this is the first time I’ve inked it up!  I thought the giraffe was perfect for a baby boy card!)

I used my MISTI to help me double stamp the “welcome” sentiment from Hero Arts’ Little One in Versamark ink.  I also stamped out my coworker’s son’s name onto more Canson Watercolor paper using Simon Says Stamp’s Game Tile Letters.  I heat embossed the sentiments using Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder, then fussy cut the game tile letters leaving a small border.

I used the cloud border die from Mama Elephant’s Landscape Trio to cut out a vellum cloud base to ground the giraffe and one of the birds.  I adhered all of the images to the panel using a combination of Tombow Mono Multi Glue and homemade glue dots.  Finally, I attached the focal panel to a cream cardstock mat and a teal tri-fold cardstock base.

I am also submitting this card to the current SSS Monday Challenge (Start Afresh), SSS Wednesday Challenge (New Something), and SSS Flickr Challenge #62 (What’s New).

2016 Holiday Card Series #4: Good Tidings of Great Joy

When I first started making cards, I invested in the 48-count tin of Prismacolor Premier colored pencils and used them on almost every project.  Since then, I’ve slowly built up a collection of COPIC Sketch Markers and tend to reach for those first when it comes time to color an image.  I dusted off my colored pencils for the 30-Day Coloring Challenge and am so glad I did — I had forgotten how fun they were to color with!!  I decided to create a card using a non-traditional holiday color scheme:

I used the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die to cut out a focal panel from Neenah Solar White cardstock.  Using my Fiskars Stamp Press, I stamped the circled numbers border from Simon Says Stamp’s Holiday Borders onto the panel with Versamark ink and heat set it with clear embossing powder.  I then blended on Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass, and Spun Sugar Distress Inks to achieve the embossed resist background.

I stamped the adorable penguin from Purple Onion Designs onto Neenah Solar White cardstock using SSS Black ink then colored him in with Prismacolor Premier colored pencils and blended with gamsol.  I then fussy cut the image leaving a small white border.

I didn’t have any matching lavender cardstock, so I created my own by blending Shaded Lilac Distress Ink onto a scrap of white cardstock.  I then used the smallest SSS Stitched Rectangles die to cut out a small rectangle to house my sentiment and ground the penguin.   I stamped the sentiment from SSS’ Peace on Earth in Versamark ink and heat set it with silver embossing powder.

I mounted the penguin and sentiment onto the focal panel with foam tape, then added a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear sequins.  I adhered the card front to an A2 top-fold white card base with Tombow Mono Multi Glue and my card was complete.

I am submitting this card to the current SSS Wednesday Challenge (Christmas Critters) and SSS Flickr Challenge (Take Some Time to Color).
